What is a Shoulder Resurfacing Procedure?
A shoulder Resurfacing Procedure is a surgical treatment option for patients suffering from arthritis or traumatic injury who are not yet ready for a total shoulder replacement. During the procedure damaged bone from the humeral head is removed, and a metal component is perfectly fit to the patient's bone and cemented in place. The patient's arm is placed in a sling after the procedure and goes through physical therapy to regain shoulder strength and function. Recovery time is dependent on the patient's healing process and response to physical therapy. This procedure is an effective treatment option for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, and post-traumatic arthritis.
